Get over it!
January 2, 2025
Anti-circumcision filmmaker Brendon Marotta wrote that people "triggered by the issue of circumcision would tell" him to "get over it" or "do therapy." The producer of American Circumcision claimed that such people "were saying 'get over it' because they were uncomfortable and wanted me to stop expressing my views and feelings so they could more easily bury their feelings of unease." [1] However he failed to present any evidence for his assertion that such people are uncomfortable about the topic of circumcision.
The Circumcision Choice Facebook page includes several posts telling intactivists to "Get over it!" Our members have faced off against the Blood Stained Men several times. We have written well over a hundred articles about circumcision, and we publish 250 Facebook posts about the topic each year. It would be unrealistic for Marotta to argue that we are uncomfortable discussing circumcision.
We advise intactivists to get over it - not for our benefit - but for their benefit. People who choose to spend their entire lives whining about their obsession have no effect on our lives or well being.
Intactivists don't just oppose circumcision; they are obsessed to the point where it can interfere with their personal and professional lives. Our article Intactivism is a Mental Disorder contains dozens of examples of intactivists destroying their lives with their fanatical obsession. [2]
Our Circumcision Grief article shares the stories of recovering intactivists - men and women - whose mental health improved dramatically after they decided to "get over it." [3] One American man wrote, "I oppose infant circumcision and think parents should not have the right to choose this for their newborns." Nevertheless, "I like the truth. The truth about this subject as much as any other. The so-called 'intactivists' have no idea of the tremendous psychological harm they are causing men who are circumcised and believe them. That’s the real tragedy in this entire tale." [4] A woman who gave up intactivism admitted, "It's not healthy for me to worry about what other people do with their children." [5]
